Siddharth Anand Says "They Didn't Understand" About The Fighter's Poor Box Office Performance In India

Fighter is thriving in international countries, but in India, the reception has been muted. On the heels of Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone's Republic Day release, there were high expectations. Since there was no competition at the box office, the receipts have been rather lacklustre. Watch director Siddharth Anand discuss the opening numbers in his own words by scrolling below.

Recently, Siddharth Anand experienced great success with Pathaan (2023). The movie, which was Shah Rukh Khan's return to Bollywood, took home an incredible 543.22 crores in Indian revenue and was a box office success. War, which he earlier collaborated in with Hrithik Roshan and grossed 319 crores domestically, was another hit. The publicity tactics were poor, and the premiere was not what it should have been—a blockbuster.

Fighter gave a boring response, for two reasons, according to Siddharth Anand.

In an interview with Galatta Plus, Siddharth Anand enumerated two causes for Fighter's lacklustre response. He said that releasing the action movie on a weekday was a grave error. The director acknowledged that his hopes were a little too high.

Fighter, according to director Siddharth Anand, is a "basic film."

"I would estimate that about 90% of our country has never flown in an aeroplane or visited an airport, so how would they know what's happening in the movie," he said in closing. This is how I dissected it. They thought this was a little strange. There was an initial disconnect since they weren't sure what kind of excitement they should be feeling from the air activity. However, as soon as you get into the theatre, you discover how simple this movie is.

More about Fighter:

On January 25, 2024, Fighter was released. Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Kapoor, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Karan Singh Grover, and Ashutosh Rana are among the film's impressive cast members.

Marflix Pictures and Viacom18 Studios support it.

After Bang Bang and War, this action movie is Hrithik Roshan and Siddharth Anand's third joint venture. They'll soon be teaming up once more for War 2.

In addition, Deepika Padukone and the director have reconciled following Pathaan's enormous commercial success.
