Bollywood’s October Box-Office Battle: Drishyam 3 to Jailer 2

October 2026 has turned into one of the busiest months for Indian cinema, with major releases competing for audience attention and valuable theatre screens. From Ajay Devgn’s much-awaited Drishyam: The Conclusion to Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, the month is bringing together some of the biggest names and most anticipated franchises in Indian entertainment.

Drishyam 3 Sets the Tone

The biggest early release is Drishyam: The Conclusion, which arrived in theatres on October 2. Ajay Devgn returns as Vijay Salgaonkar, alongside Tabu, Shriya Saran and Jaideep Ahlawat. The movie is positioned as the concluding chapter of the popular thriller franchise.

The film has opened strongly at the box office. According to a report published today, Drishyam 3 crossed ₹216 crore within its first five days, giving Ajay Devgn one of the strongest theatrical openings of his career.

Its strong performance has also affected the wider release calendar.

Udta Teer Moves Away From the Crowded Weekend

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s Udta Teer was originally scheduled for October 9. However, the makers have now moved its release to October 23, citing the crowded theatrical market and the desire for a clearer release window.

The decision highlights how strongly a major franchise can influence the box-office landscape. With Drishyam 3 performing exceptionally well, securing enough screens and audience attention has become an important consideration for upcoming releases.

Jailer 2 Brings Rajinikanth to the Battle

The next major attraction is Jailer 2, starring superstar Rajinikanth. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel is officially scheduled to release on October 15, 2026. The film also features Vidya Balan, Jackie Shroff, Mohanlal and several other prominent names.

The sequel has generated significant interest because of the popularity of the first Jailer. Its release adds another major franchise to an already packed October.

A Crowded October Ahead

The month doesn't end with these two films. Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story, Nayyi Navelli, Ranabaali and several other films are also scheduled during October. Meanwhile, Udta Teer now arrives on October 23, creating another busy weekend at the theatres.

The October line-up demonstrates how Indian cinema is increasingly relying on recognizable franchises, established stars and strong theatrical concepts to attract audiences.

For moviegoers, however, the crowded calendar means plenty of choices. For filmmakers, it creates a difficult competition for screens, publicity and audience attention.

With Drishyam 3 already making a powerful start and Jailer 2 waiting to enter the race, October 2026 could become one of the most interesting box-office months of the year.
