Celebrate Cinema Festival 2026: The Stars and Stories Behind the Event

Bollywood celebrated the art of filmmaking at Celebrate Cinema 2026, a three-day festival organised by Whistling Woods International in Mumbai from October 7 to 9. Founded by filmmaker Subhash Ghai, the 14th edition brought together celebrated actors, directors, industry professionals, and aspiring filmmakers to explore the impact of cinema and the future of storytelling.

With Aamir Khan, Hema Malini, Rana Daggubati, and Imtiaz Ali among its featured personalities, the festival offered more than celebrity appearances. It created a platform for conversations about filmmaking, creative expression, and the experience of watching movies on the big screen. The event attracted more than 4,000 participants, according to the institute's post-event announcement.

Aamir Khan Opens the Festival with a Conversation on Cinema

One of the festival's major highlights was Aamir Khan's interaction with the Sitaare Zameen Par team. The discussion explored storytelling, audience expectations, and the importance of the theatrical experience.

Khan also spoke about the energy of students pursuing careers in filmmaking. His participation gave aspiring creators an opportunity to hear from an actor and producer known for his involvement in a variety of Hindi cinema projects.

Hema Malini Pays Tribute to Dharmendra

A particularly emotional moment came when Hema Malini inaugurated an exhibition honouring veteran actor Dharmendra and his contribution to Indian cinema. A student-created audiovisual presentation celebrated his memorable career and lasting influence.

The tribute also highlighted the importance of supporting future filmmakers. Maharashtra's Cultural Affairs Minister, Ashish Shelar, announced scholarships in Dharmendra's name for academically excelling students at the institute.

The tribute connected Bollywood's celebrated past with the ambitions of a new generation of artists.

Rana Daggubati and Imtiaz Ali Share Their Perspectives

Rana Daggubati joined the festival to discuss cinema's ability to bring people together across social and cultural differences. His appearance added another perspective to the conversations about the role of films in society.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali participated in the festival's concluding session with Subhash Ghai. Known for his distinctive approach to character-driven storytelling, Ali discussed filmmaking and the creative choices that shape memorable cinematic experiences.

Workshops Explore the Future of Filmmaking

Celebrate Cinema 2026 also included masterclasses, panel discussions, and practical workshops covering screenwriting, editing, visual effects, production design, acting, photography, and sound.

Technology was another important theme. Demonstrations involving immersive experiences and AI-assisted creative tools showed how filmmaking techniques are evolving. At the same time, the festival emphasised that strong storytelling and emotional connection remain central to successful cinema.

Celebrate Cinema 2026 demonstrated that Bollywood's influence extends beyond movie releases and celebrity appearances. By bringing established artists together with students and emerging professionals, the festival created opportunities for learning, discussion, and creative inspiration.

From Aamir Khan's reflections on the theatrical experience to Hema Malini's tribute to Dharmendra and Imtiaz Ali's filmmaking insights, the event celebrated both the heritage and future of Indian cinema.
